5 Killed in Car Crash on I-45 in Leon County

Five Killed in Leon County Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 45

Leon County, Texas (May 6, 2021) – Five people were killed early Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle crash at Buffalo in Leon County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash occurred around 3:30 a.m., May 4, on Interstate 45, near the 179-mile marker.

DPS said a 2018 Nissan Rogue was traveling northbound on the interstate when it left the main lanes and rear-ended an 18-wheeler that was legally parked.

The 18-wheeler was parked with flashers operating, and warning cones set out.

The Rogue caught fire after the collision.

Four adults and a child in the Rogue were pronounced dead at the scene. The victims were believed to have been a family from Oklahoma. Their names have not been released.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
