76-Year-Old Man Critically Injured in San Antonio Pedestrian Crash at Commerce Street and Santa Rosa

San Antonio, Texas – A 76-year-old man was critically injured Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle at a construction zone in San Antonio, according to the police.

The accident happened around 9:30 a.m., at the intersection of W. Commerce St. and S. Santa Rosa.

Police said a 46-year-old man was driving a Ford F-150 pickup southbound on Santa Rosa. The specific area was marked as an active construction zone with construction workers present, and construction barricades in place.

The 76-year-old man, who works as a vendor in Market Square, had parked his car between construction barricades that separated the northbound and the southbound lanes to unload his vehicle. As the Ford driver cleared the intersection, he approached the section where the vendor had parked his car. As the driver passed the vendor’s vehicle, the vendor walked into the roadway, outside of a designated crosswalk, and was struck by the vehicle. The impact caused the victim to fall and hit his head on the asphalt causing him to go unconscious.

The victim was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

The Ford driver stayed at the scene and cooperated fully with the investigators.

The police are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
