Alfonso Rodriguez Killed in Houston Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident on Homestead Road; Reginald Smith Jr. Charged

Houston, Texas (January 14, 2020) – A man was killed early Saturday morning in a hit-and-run accident in northeast Harris County, according to the deputies.

The crash occurred around 1:37 a.m. January 11, in the 13500 block of Homestead Road north of the Mount Houston area.

Deputies said Alfonso Rodriguez was walking in the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene after the accident.

Rodriguez was declared dead at the scene.

Reginald Smith Jr., 37, of Houston, was later arrested after a tipster led authorities to him. He said he fled the scene after hitting Rodriguez because he was scared. He was charged, and he posted a $30,000 bond bail.

The crash remains under investigation.
