Braden Jones and Gabriel Coronado Killed in Kilgore Two-Vehicle Crash at FM 349 and US 259

Kilgore, Texas (January 20, 2020) – Two teens were killed, and two others were injured Thursday night in a two-vehicle crash in Kilgore, according to the DPS.

The deadly crash took place on just before midnight, on January 16, at the intersection of FM 349 and U.S. 259.

DPS said Gabriel Coronado, 17, of Longview, was driving a 2004 Nissan Altima westbound on IH-20 when troopers attempted to stop him for a traffic violation. Coronado evaded the troopers and exited the interstate on FM-2087. He continued southbound to FM 349 then westbound, where he ran a red light and crashed into an 18-wheeler driven by Michael James Wright, 49 of Hallettsville.

Coronado was pronounced dead at the scene. Braden Jones, 17, of Kilgore, who was riding in the Altima, was taken to Good Shepard Medical Center, where he later died.

A 16-year-old boy and a 17-year old girl, who were also riding in the Altima, were taken to Good Shepard Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Wright was uninjured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
