Calvin Charles Bench Killed in Car Crash on FM 969 in East Austin

36-Year-Old Calvin Charles Bench Killed in East Austin Two-Vehicle Crash on FM 969

Austin, Texas (February 26, 2020) –The man who was killed in a two-vehicle crash Saturday morning in East Austin has been identified as Calvin Charles Bench, 36, according to the police.

The fatal crash happened around 5:15 a.m. February 22, in the 7900 block of FM 969, near U.S. 183 and the Travis County Expo Center.

According to a preliminary investigation, Bench was driving a 2005 red Honda Accord and was exiting a private driveway. As Bench was turning westbound onto the highway, his Accord was struck on the driver’s side by a 2020 silver Chevrolet Equinox that was traveling eastbound on the outside lane.

Bench was declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the Equinox, Anthony Michael DeLeon, 28, was arrested and charged with DWI. Police said DeLeon’s intoxication was, however, not a contributing factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Calvin Charles Bench.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
