Charles Calahan Killed, Eddie Jackson and Jennifer Smith Injured in Smith County Four-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 110

Smith County, Texas (August 30, 2022) – A man was killed, and two other people were injured Monday morning in a four-vehicle crash in Smith County, according to the authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 9:38 a.m., August 29, on State Highway 110, one half-mile south of Tyler.

Authorities said Charles Calahan, 94, was driving a 2017 Honda Civic and was attempting to turn onto SH 110 from Meadow Cemetery Road when he turned in front of a southbound 2018 Ford Explorer. He then struck a 2020 Chevy Suburban, and the Explorer hit a 2021 Peterbilt truck-trailer, which was heading northbound.

Calahan was killed in the crash. He was wearing a seatbelt.

The Ford driver, Eddie Jackson, 66, of Troup, was taken to Christus Hospital in Tyler with non-life-threatening injuries and was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Chevy, Jennifer Smith, 40, of Whitehouse, was taken to Christus Hospital in Tyler with non-life-threatening injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The Peterbilt driver, Christopher Dixon, 25, of Chandler, was uninjured in the crash. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
