Claudia Del Hierro Dies Weeks After DUI Crash on Lee Blvd in El Paso

Claudia Del Hierro Killed in East El Paso Two-Vehicle Crash on Lee Blvd near Edgemere Blvd

El Paso, Texas (October 22, 2020) – The woman who was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash earlier this month in east El Paso has died, according to police.

The deadly crash happened just before 10:00 a.m., on October 7, on Lee Boulevard, near Edgemere Boulevard.

Police said 45-year-old Claudia Del Hierro was driving a Yukon northbound on Lee Blvd when she stopped at the red light at the intersection. Frederick Martinez, 74, was driving a Chevrolet Colorado when he failed to brake or slow down and rear-ended the Yukon.

The force of the impact caused the Yukon to rollover.

Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers said he was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

Del Hierro was taken to the hospital with serious injuries where she was listed in critical condition until she succumbed to her injuries.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help pay for Del Hierro’s medical and funeral expenses.

The authorities are investigating the crash.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Claudia Del Hierro.

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol. Alcohol however is not the only intoxicant, as drivers can become intoxicated by ingesting prescription and illegal drugs such as crack, marijuana, and cocaine.

Regardless of what substance caused the driver’s reaction time to become significantly altered, intoxication by any means can cause terrible accidents and injuries.

Innocent victims harmed by drunk drivers are entitled to compensation for their injuries, including but not limited to medical expenses; lost wages; pain and suffering and mental anguish; physical impairment and disability; and most importantly, punitive damages to deter future conduct. If a death occurred because of a drunk driver, you will want a knowledgeable accident lawyer to bring a wrongful death action against the drunk driver.
