Clayton Shields Killed in Donley County Pedestrian Accident on US 287

Donley County, Texas (May 7, 2021) – According to the DPS, a pedestrian was fatally hit by a semi-truck early Wednesday morning in Donley County.

The deadly accident occurred around 12:35 a.m., May 5, on US 287, northwest of Lelia Lake.

DPS said a 2020 Freightliner truck tractor towing two semi-trailers was traveling southbound on the highway when it moved from the outside lane to the inside lane due to an emergency vehicle on the outside shoulder and struck Clayton Shields, 28, of Lelia Lake, who was walking southbound in the inside lane.

Shields was pronounced dead at the scene.

No further details were provided.

The DPS troopers are investigating the crash.
