Cyclist Killed in Hit-and-Run on Tower Road near Edinburg; Alan Rios Arrested

One Killed in Edinburg Pedestrian Accident on Tower Road near South Trail Drive; Alan Rios Arrested

Edinburg, Texas (July 10, 2023) – According to the Texas DPS, a cyclist was killed Sunday night in a hit-and-run accident east of Edinburg.

The deadly accident happened around 11:00 p.m., July 9, on Tower Road north of South Trail Drive.

DPS said a white 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe struck a male cyclist and fled the scene.

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

The Chevrolet was found near the crash scene at the intersection of Alamo Road and Texas Road, with damage consistent with the evidence found at the crash scene and observed on the vehicle. The driver, 19-year-old Alan Nicolas Rios, was located near his residence. He was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter and was transported to the Hidalgo County Detention Center.

The Texas DPS is investigating the crash.
