Deputy Mike Ryan and Deputy Daniel Caswell Seriously Injured in Anderson Two-Vehicle Crash on West Johnson Avenue

Anderson, Texas (August 26, 2021) – Two Grimes County deputies were injured Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Anderson, according to the authorities.

The crash happened around 1:15 a.m., on West Johnson Avenue.

Authorities said two deputies were conducting a traffic stop on a gray Dodge pickup when a pickup truck failed to yield, and the deputies pursued it.

The deputies and the suspect pickup truck collided in a curve on the roadway.

The pickup driver, Cole Reynolds, 19, fled the scene after the accident.

One of the deputies, Deputy Mike Ryan, had to be extricated from the vehicle and was airlifted to St. Joseph’s Regional Emergency Room with serious injuries. The other deputy, Deputy Daniel Caswell, who was the driver, was taken to the hospital with a broken femur, a compound tibia/fibula fracture, a broken leg, and lacerations to his head.

Reynolds was later arrested around 6:00 a.m., on County Road 185. He has been charged with evading arrest.

An investigation is underway.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
