Wichita Falls, Texas (March 29, 2023) – A woman died on Saturday following a two-vehicle crash that happened on March 16 in Wichita Falls, according to the police.

The crash happened at the intersection of Seymour Highway, Loop 11, and Beverly Drive.

Police said Anastacio Mendoza, 37, was driving a truck westbound on Seymour Highway when he ran a red light at high speed and hit a car, which was turning left from eastbound Seymour Highway onto Loop 11.

The car driver, Diane Luckett, 68, of Wichita Falls, was taken to URHCS with life-threatening injuries and was later taken to a Lubbock hospital, where she died on March 25.

Mendoza was taken to United Regional, where he was treated, and after being released, he was taken to the Wichita County jail. He has been charged with Intoxication Assault. A new charge is being filed for intoxication manslaughter on a $50,000 bond instead of his original charge of intoxication assault. He is also jailed on no bond on an immigration detainer.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
