Glasscock County, Texas (November 6, 2023) – A man was killed Friday morning in a three-vehicle crash in Glasscock County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened on November 3, on SH 158.

DPS said 28-year-old Edward Scott Abendroth Jr., of Midland, was driving his truck towing a trailer heading eastbound on the highway. 26-year-old Claudio Esteban Barranco was driving a truck towing a trailer directly in front of Abendroth. Abendroth failed to control his speed and rear-ended Barranco’s vehicle.

Another truck with a towed trailer driven by 34-year-old Casey Seay O’Connell was heading westbound. O’Connell was hit by debris from the prior crash, causing him to lose control and both his truck and trailer skidded and rolled over.

O’Connell’s trailer was a cattle hauler, loaded with about 120 cattle. 44 cattle died at the scene.

Abendroth was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other information was available.

The DPS is investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
