San Marcos, Texas (May 22, 2020) – The man who was involved in a hit-and-run accident that left one person dead in February has been arrested, according to police.

The accident happened around 1:27 a.m. February 29, in the 200 block of S. Guadalupe Street.

Police said they received a call about a man lying on the street. They responded and found Eligio Vasquez, 69, of San Antonio, who was not breathing.

Officers began performing CPR on Vasquez, and first responders continued with the CPR until Vasquez got his pulse back.

Vasquez was taken to Seton-Hays in Kyle, where he later died.

Someone recognized the truck and called the police.

Antonio Rene Alonzo, 23, later turned himself in and cooperated with the investigators.

Alonzo is facing a charge of accident involving death.

An investigation is ongoing.

“When a person has suffered a grave personal injury in an accident due to someone else’s negligence, the most overwhelming emotion they feel is a sense of injustice. They often ask how such a life-altering event could have happened to them,” attorney Joel A. Gordon said. “The next question usually is, who can help me?” Mr. Gordon added.
