Eliseo Rivera Injured in Castro County Two-Vehicle Crash at SH 86 and FM 1055
Castro County, Texas (June 24, 2021) – One person was killed and another was injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning in Castro County, according to the Texas DPS.
The fatal crash happened around 6:15 a.m., June 23, at the intersection of State Highway 86 and Farm-to-Market Road 1055, 5.5 miles west of Dimmitt.
DPS said Leon Gerardus Heijliger, 56, of Cumby, was driving a cargo van when he ran a stop sign on FM 1055 and crashed into a semi-truck pulling a livestock trailer that was traveling eastbound on SH 86.
Heijliger was pronounced dead at the scene.
The semi-truck driver, Eliseo Rivera, 38, of Hereford, was taken to Plains Memorial Hospital in Dimmitt with non-incapacitating injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
