Ezekiel Ortega Killed in Pedestrian Crash on US 83 in Jones County

Ezekiel Ortega Killed in Jones County Pedestrian Accident on U.S. Highway 83

Jones County, Texas (December 8, 2022) – A man was killed in a pedestrian accident Tuesday evening in Jones County, according to the Texas DPS.

The deadly accident happened on December 6, on U.S. Highway 83, about a mile north of Hawley.

DPS said Ezekiel Ortega, 31, exited a passenger car that was parked on the shoulder of the highway facing northbound.

A 2017 Kenworth truck/tractor driven by Owen O’Kelly, 69, of Trent, was traveling northbound on the highway when it struck Ortega, who walked into the traffic lane.

Ortega was pronounced dead at the scene.

O’Kelly was uninjured in the crash.

The weather conditions were clear, and road conditions were dry at the time of the crash.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
