Firefighter Injured after DUI Suspect Crashes into Houston Fire Station near Telephone Road

Houston, Texas (February 27, 2020) – A firefighter was injured Wednesday night after a suspected drunk driver crashed into a fire station in southeast Houston, according to a local news source.

The crash took place around 10:00 p.m. February 26, at Fire Station No. 18, just off Telephone Road near Lockwood.

Authorities said the suspected drunk driver crashed into the fire station. The impact of the crash caused a refrigerator to fall on one firefighter who was in the station.

The firefighter was taken to the hospital with a head injury, possibly a concussion. He was treated and later released.

The crash left a gaping hole in the brick wall.

The driver was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. His charges could be upgraded to intoxication assault of a public servant and that he may have to pay the city in damages.

The crash remains under investigation.

We wish the injured victim a quick recovery.

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol. Alcohol, however, is not the only intoxicant, as drivers can become intoxicated by ingesting prescription and illegal drugs such as crack, marijuana, and cocaine.

Regardless of what substance caused the driver’s reaction time to become significantly altered, intoxication by any means can cause terrible accidents and injuries.

Innocent victims harmed by drunk drivers are entitled to compensation for their injuries, including but not limited to medical expenses; lost wages; pain and suffering and mental anguish; physical impairment and disability; and most importantly, punitive damages to deter future conduct.
