Jose Rivas, Christina Gonzalez, and Gonzalez’s Son Killed in Refugio County Two-Vehicle Crash on US Highway 77

Refugio County, Texas (July 17, 2023) – Three people were killed Sunday morning in a rollover crash in northern Refugio County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 5:06 a.m., on July 16, in the southbound lane of U.S. Highway 77 near Vidaurri Road.

DPS said a white GMC truck struck a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado, pushing it into the grassy median and causing it to roll over.

Christina Gonzalez, 37, of Humble, was ejected from the Silverado. The other two occupants of the Silverado, Jose Rivas, 39, of Houston, and Gonzalez’s son, were entrapped in the vehicle, which burst into flames. All three were pronounced dead.

No other details were provided.

The crash remains under investigation.
