Gerald Rist Killed in Car Crash on SH 19 in Henderson County

Gerald Patrick Rist Killed in Henderson County Three-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 19

Henderson County, Texas (June 3, 2023) – One person was killed Wednesday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash in Henderson County, one mile south of Athens, Texas, according to the authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 3:06 p.m., May 31, on State Highway 19.

Authorities said 16-year-old Alyssa Bailey Jennings from Athens, Texas, was driving a 2014 Ford Escape southbound behind 59-year-old Gerald Patrick Rist from Dallas, who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Uplander northbound.

Rist crossed into the northbound lane and crashed into a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 24-year-old Andrew Austin Scott from Log Cabin, Texas. Following the collision, Jennings subsequently collided with Rist’s vehicle.

Rist was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Scott and Jennings were uninjured in the crash. They were both wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The posted speed limit on SH 19 at the time of the crash was 60 mph. The weather conditions were cloudy, and the road conditions were dry.

The crash remains under investigation.
