Granvil Lee Oden Killed in Midland County Three-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 20

Midland County, Texas (August 13, 2022) – A man was killed Friday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash in Midland County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 3:50 p.m., August 12, on Interstate 20, near South County Road 1150, just east of Midland.

DPS said an eastbound semi-truck lost control, veered across the center median, and went into the westbound lanes, where it crashed head-on into an SUV.

Another westbound semi-truck was able to avoid the crash but was struck by debris.

The SUV driver, Granvil Lee Oden, 82, of Lovington, New Mexico, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the first semi-truck, Jesus Castanon, was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released. He was later arrested on September 9 and was charged with Intoxication Manslaughter.

The driver of the other semi-truck was uninjured in the crash.

The DPS is investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
