Jacoby Springfield Killed in Lubbock Pedestrian Accident on 82nd Street at Avenue U; Christina Hernandez Arrested

Lubbock, Texas (October 14, 2021) – The pedestrian who was killed on October 4 in a hit-and-run accident in South Lubbock has been identified as Jacoby Springfield, 20, according to the police.

The deadly accident happened around 12:45 a.m., at the intersection of 82nd Street and Avenue U.

Police said a vehicle was traveling eastbound on 82nd Street when it failed to stop at the red light and struck Springfield, who was crossing the street in a crosswalk.

Springfield was taken to University Medical Center and was later pronounced dead.

The driver, 50-year-old Christina Hernandez, fled the scene and was arrested in the 2700 block of East Slaton Highway. She was arrested for intoxication manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid leading to death.

Hernandez was uninjured in the accident, but her passenger was taken to University Medical Center with moderate injuries.

The police are investigating the crash.
