Jason Howell Killed in Seguin Five-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 10

Seguin, Texas (August 28, 2021) – Three people were killed, and five others were injured Thursday afternoon in a fiery multi-vehicle crash in Seguin, according to the Seguin Police Department.

The fatal crash happened just before 3:00 p.m., on August 26, on Interstate 10 near the State Highway 123 Bypass.

Police said a semi-truck was traveling eastbound on the interstate and was transporting meat products when it was cut off by vehicles that were trying to avoid TxDOT workers in the area. The driver braked abruptly to avoid a collision, causing the truck to lose its load on the roadway.

The meat products caused the road to get slick, and another semi-truck swerved to avoid a crash, but it crashed into a guardrail and caught fire, causing a chain-reaction crash involving four vehicles.

Jason A. Howell, 48, of San Antonio, Jason N. Sanchez, 36, of San Antonio, and Joseph D. Cline, 37, of Marion, were killed in the crash.

A responding Seguin police officer sustained injuries as he was saving the crash victims. The officer and two other people were taken to Guadalupe Regional Medical Center, where the officer was treated and released.

Two other people were treated and released at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

“When a person has suffered a grave personal injury in an accident due to someone else’s negligence, the most overwhelming emotion they feel is a sense of injustice. They often ask how such a life-altering event could have happened to them,” attorney Joel A. Gordon said. “The next question usually is, who can help me?” Mr. Gordon added.

A legal advocate can represent an injury victim or the family of a deceased victim. The attorney will file a claim on behalf of the victim and will have the responsibility of citing existing codes, laws or statutes which were violated.
