Jesus and Monica Calzada Injured in San Angelo Motorcycle Crash at West Ave L. and S. Bryant Blvd; Travis Christian Arrested

San Angelo, Texas (June 10, 2020) – Two people were injured Sunday night in a motorcycle accident at a San Angelo intersection, according to police.

The crash happened at about 8:00 p.m. on June 7, at the intersection of West Avenue L and South Bryant Boulevard.

Police said Travis Christian was driving a White 2007 Ford F-150 eastbound on W Ave. L when he ran a red light at the intersection and hit a 2015 Harley Davidson Breakout.

The impact split the motorcycle into two.

Christian stopped near the Santa Fe Furniture Store after the accident, got out and fled on foot. His truck was seized as evidence.

The motorcyclist, 58-year-old Jesus, and his passenger, 35-year-old Monica Calzada, were taken to Shannon with serious injuries.

Jesus was later airlifted to Lubbock for surgery due to a brain bleed.

Christian was arrested for an accident involving serious bodily injury on June 9. He is being held at the Tom Green County Jail in lieu of a $15,000 bond. He had previously been booked for two driving while intoxicated, burglary of a building, public intoxication, and duty on striking an unattended vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation.

We hope Jesus and Monica Calzada recover quickly.

Most motorcycle crashes are caused by negligent drivers who don’t keep a proper lookout or fail to yield the right-of-way. Because motorcyclists are vulnerable, their injuries are usually severe, often suffering from road rash, broken bones, brain injuries, amputations, or spinal cord injuries.
