Jimmy Young Sr. Injured in Hopkins County Three-Vehicle Crash on SH 154

Hopkins County, Texas (June 15, 2021) – Two people were killed, and two others were injured Saturday evening in a three-vehicle crash in Hopkins County, according to the troopers.

The fatal crash happened around 5:52 p.m., June 12, on State Highway 154, about four and a half miles south of Sulphur Springs.

Troopers said Brenda Mowat Coker, 73, of Pickton, was driving a 2019 Lincoln SUV northbound while Brandon Brown, 34, of Sulphur Springs, was driving a 2013 Dodge Challenger behind the Lincoln.

Brown failed to control his speed and crashed into the Lincoln.

The force of the impact caused the Lincoln to leave the roadway and crash into several trees before hitting a southbound 2014 Dodge Ram driven by Jimmy Young Sr., 73, of Fort Worth.

Brenda and her passenger, Tracy Coker, 79, of Pickton, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Brown and Young were taken to a local hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

“When a person has suffered a grave personal injury in an accident due to someone else’s negligence, the most overwhelming emotion they feel is a sense of injustice. They often ask how such a life-altering event could have happened to them,” attorney Joel A. Gordon said. “The next question usually is, who can help me?” Mr. Gordon added.

A legal advocate can represent an injury victim or the family of a deceased victim. The attorney will file a claim on behalf of the victim and will have the responsibility of citing existing codes, laws, or statutes which were violated.
