Jones Okey Killed, Williamson County Deputy Injured in Jarrell Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 35
Jarrell, Texas (September 29, 2020) – An off-duty Williamson county deputy was injured Sunday night in a two-vehicle crash that left one person dead in Jarrell, according to authorities.
The fatal crash happened at about 11:15 p.m., September 27, on Interstate 35 near mile marker 274.
DPS said Jones Okey, 78, of West Virginia, was driving a 1995 Buick Regal southbound in the left shoulder, while a marked Williamson County Sheriff’s Office vehicle was traveling southbound in the left lane.
Okey moved into the left lane and rear-ended the patrol vehicle.
Okey was pronounced dead at the scene.
The deputy was taken to St. David’s Hospital in Georgetown with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash closed the southbound lanes of I-35 at exit 277.
The authorities are investigating the crash.
