Jose Martin Zamarripa Killed in South Austin Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 35 

Austin, Texas (July 29, 2020) – Two people were killed early Friday morning in a wrong-way crash in far South Austin, according to police.

The fatal crash happened around 12:41 a.m., July 24, in the 13700 block of Interstate 35 South, just south of Texas 45 near Buda.

Police said a 2017 gray Nissan Altima was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the highway when it crashed head-on into a 2003 gold Chevrolet Silverado, which was pulling a travel trailer.

The Silverado and the trailer caught fire after the collision.

The Nissan driver, 27-year-old Jose Martin Zamarripa, was partially ejected from his vehicle. The Silverado driver, 47-year-old Brian Allen Tucker, was ejected from his vehicle.

Both Zamarripa and Tucker were pronounced dead at the scene.

A female passenger in the Silverado was able to get out of the vehicle before it caught fire with the help of an off-duty UTPD officer who witnessed the crash. She was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
