Juan Gabriel Luera Killed in Car Crash on Highway 84 in Lubbock County

Juan Gabriel Luera Killed in Lubbock County Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 84 

Lubbock, Texas (August 21, 2020) – One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash early Thursday morning in Lubbock County, according to DPS.

The fatal crash occurred at about 5:35 a.m., August 20, on U.S. Highway 84 near the Coors Plant.

DPS said Juan Gabriel Luera, 42, of Slaton, was driving a 2012 Hyundai Sonata northwest in the inside lane when a 2017 Ford van entered the highway from the plant and began heading northwest in the inside lane.

The Sonata then rear-ended the van. Both vehicles came to a rest in the inside lane, facing northwest.

Luera, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The van driver, Ryan Frank Salinas, 24, of Lubbock, and his passenger, 25-year-old Isaiah Matthew Sandoval of Lubbock, were uninjured in the crash. They were both wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The authorities are investigating the crash.
