Leonardo Belone Killed in 2-Vehicle Crash at FM 874 and SH 302 in Winkler County

Leonardo Belone ID’d as Victim in Fatal Winkler County Crash at FM 874 and SH 302

Winkler County, Texas (February 7, 2023) – Authorities have identified the person who died in a crash Saturday in Winkler County as 53-year-old Leonardo Belone of New Mexico.

The accident took place at the intersection of FM 874 and SH 302 on February 4.

Authorities said a 2016 Jeep Cherokee was heading southbound on FM 874 when the driver failed to yield the right of way at the intersection of FM 874 and SH 302.

A 2016 Kenworth truck with trailer traveling westbound on SH 302 struck the Cherokee.

Belone who was a passenger in the Cherokee died in the crash. The driver of the Cherokee was taken to Winkler County Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Kenworth Truck did not suffer any injuries.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
