Linda Smith Dies in Two-Vehicle Crash on US 96 in Brookeland

Linda Smith Killed in Brookeland Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 96 at FM 1007

Brookeland, Texas (November 9, 2023) – A woman was killed on Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash in Brookeland, north Jasper County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around noon, November 7, on Highway 96 at Farm to Market Road 1007.

DPS said 69-year-old Linda Smith, of Huntington, was driving a 2023 Chevrolet Equinox SUV eastbound on FM 1007, while 52-year-old Dawn Woods, of Newton, was driving a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV northbound on Highway 96.

Smith failed to yield at the stop sign and she pulled out in front of Woods, and the Tahoe hit the passenger’s side of the Equinox.

Smith was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries where she later died. Woods was taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
