San Antonio, Texas (December 18, 2021) – A motorcyclist was critically injured Friday night in a hit-and-run crash in San Antonio’s South Side, according to the police.

The crash happened around 11:00 p.m., December 17, in the area of Interstate 35 and Division.

Police said a man in his 50s was riding his motorcycle northbound on I-35 when a red pickup merged into his lane, causing him to lose control and crash.

The driver of the red pickup truck fled the scene after the crash.

The motorcyclist was taken to University Hospital in critical condition. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The police are investigating the crash.

Most motorcycle crashes are caused by negligent drivers who don’t keep a proper lookout or fail to yield the right-of-way. Because motorcyclists are vulnerable, their injuries are usually severe, often suffering from road rash, broken bones, brain injuries, amputations, or spinal cord injuries. In some cases, the accident results in death.
