Richard Lopez Identified as Driver Killed in Corpus Christi Car Crash on SPID (Highway 358)

Corpus Christi, Texas (January 6, 2018) – The man who was killed in a fatal wrong-way crash that left four people hospitalized with major injuries on New Year’s Day in Corpus Christi has been identified as Richard Lopez, 28, according to police.
The wreck happened shortly after 5 a.m. January 1, on Highway 358 near the Staples exit.
Corpus Christi police said Lopez was driving a grey SUV the wrong way when he collided with an oncoming SUV.
Lopez was killed in the crash.
The second SUV was occupied by four family members. Guillermo Serna, Yasmine Serna, Jason Serna and Michelle Lara. They were all transported to a hospital with major injuries.
Police continue to investigate the incident.
