Richard Raines and Carol Cornelius Dies Days after Axtell Car Accident on State Highway 31 at FM-2311
Axtell, Texas (May 8, 2019) – The man and the woman who were critically injured last week Monday in a two-car accident in Axtell have died, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The deadly crash happened on State Highway 31 at FM 2311 Monday, April 29.
The DPS said Richard Raines, 58, of Dawson, was driving a Nissan pickup truck southbound on FM 2311 when he ran a red light and pulled into the path of a Ford pickup truck that was being driven eastbound on State Highway 31 by Carol Cornelius, 76, of Mount Calm.
Raines, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle upon the impact. Both Raines and Cornelius were taken to local hospitals in critical condition. According to the DPS, Raines and Cornelius succumbed to their injuries on Tuesday, May 7.
The crash remains under investigation.
