Robert Gerstenkorn Killed and Sherry Gerstenkorn Injured in Johnson County Two-Vehicle Crash on FM 2280

Johnson County, Texas (January 2, 2021) – One person was killed, and two others were injured in a head-on collision on New Year’s Eve in Johnson County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 4:00 p.m., December 31, on FM 2280, south of CR 805B.

DPS said Heather Howerton, 40, of Cleburne, was driving a Cadillac XTS SUV southbound while Robert Gerstenkorn, 70, of Arlington, was driving a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup northbound.

For unknown reasons, Howerton veered into the northbound lane and crashed head-on into the Dodge.

The Cadillac stopped in the southbound ditch while the Dodge stopped in the northbound ditch after the crash.

Robert was taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, where he was pronounced dead. His passenger, Sherry Gerstenkorn, 67, of Arlington, was also taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital for treatment.

Howerton was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

The troopers are investigating the crash.
