Robin Sphaler Seriously Injured in Fatal Crash at FM 753 and FM 59 in Henderson County

Robin Sphaler Hospitalized after Henderson County Car Crash at FM 753 and FM 59

Henderson County, Texas (June 25, 2022) – Robin Sphaler, 67, of Teague, was seriously injured after being involved in a crash that also left one person dead Friday morning in Henderson County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened at about 10:15 a.m. Friday, June 24, at the intersection of FM 753 and FM 59. The area is about 4.4 miles southwest of Athens.

DPS said Christopher Spencer, 61, of Tyler, was driving a van westbound on FM 753 while Felix Rojas, 46, of Murchison, was driving a Freightliner truck tractor towing a 1997 Lufkin dump semi-trailer southbound on FM 59. Both were approaching the intersection of the two Farm to Market roads.

The van reportedly failed to yield right of way at a stop sign and was hit on the right side by the Freightliner. Due to the impact, both vehicles veered off the road into the west ditch, crashed through a barbed-wire fence, and ended up in a pasture.

Spencer was declared dead at the scene.

Sphaler, who was a passenger in the van, sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to UT Health Tyler Hospital.

Rojas was checked by paramedics and released at the scene.

No other details about the crash were immediately provided.

The accident remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
