Sean Leary Killed in Motorcycle Crash on SH 155 at CR 196 in Tyler

Sean Leary Killed in Tyler Motorcycle Crash on State Highway 155 at County Road 196

Tyler, Texas (September 14, 2023) – One person was killed Friday evening in a motorcycle crash in Tyler, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The fatal crash happened around 4:00 p.m., September 8, on State Highway 155 at County Road 196.

DPS said a 37-year-old Tyler resident was driving a 2007 Chrysler Sebring and was stopped at a stop sign on County Road 196 facing westbound. Sean O. Leary, 39, was riding a 2003 Yamaha motorcycle southbound on SH 155 while a 43-year-old Tyler resident was driving a 2018 Toyota Rav4 and was stopped at a stop sign on County Road 196 facing eastbound.

The Chrysler failed to yield the right of way to Leary and collided with his motorcycle at the intersection. The Toyota sustained only minor damage after the initial collision.

Leary, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported in the crash.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
