Vicki Smith Killed in Smith County Two-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 135

Smith County, Texas (December 7, 2020) – A woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon in Smith County, according to authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 1:45 p.m., December 5, on SH 135, 2 miles south of Overton.

According to a preliminary investigation, a gray 2015 Toyota Rav4 SUV was traveling southbound on the highway while a 1995 Mack truck tractor pulling a 1987 Fruehauf Corporation pole trailer was traveling northbound.

For unknown reasons, the Rav4 veered into the northbound lane and was struck by the Mack tractor.

The Rav4 driver, Vicki Smith, 69, of Overton, was taken to UT Health main campus, Tyler, where she later died.

The Mack driver, Dexter Cary, 48, of Overton, was checked out and released at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
