Winford Grant Killed after Pickup, Dump Truck Collide on FM 2186 in Randall County

Winford Grant ID’d as Man Killed in Randall County Crash on FM 2186 near Amarillo

Randall County, Texas (October 13, 2022) – Authorities have identified the man who was killed Monday afternoon in a crash involving a pickup and dump truck in Randall County.

Winford Grant, 82, of Amarillo, died in the crash that happened at around 3:35 p.m. Monday, October 10, on FM 2186, about two miles west of Amarillo.

According to the Department of Public Safety, Grant was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado C1500 westbound on FM 2186 when he turned left in front of an eastbound 2005 Mack dump truck loaded with hot mix, driven by Charles Rankin, 53, of Amarillo.

The dump truck ultimately hit the pickup on the right front side. After the impact, the pickup caught fire while the dump truck flipped onto its right side in the south ditch and spilled part of its load.

Grant suffered serious injuries and was transported to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Rankin was treated and released at the scene.

It was raining with wet road conditions. The posted speed limit was 65 mph.

The Texas Highway Patrol Troopers are investigating the crash.
