2 Injured after Prison bus, Vehicle Collide on State Highway 36 in Callahan County

Two Drivers Injured in Callahan County Crash on State Highway 36 on Tuesday afternoon

Callahan County, Texas (October 19, 2022) – Two drivers were injured in a crash involving a Texas Department of Corrections bus and a passenger on Tuesday afternoon in Callahan County, according to a report released by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The wreck occurred at about 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 18, on State Highway 36, about two miles east of U.S. Highway 283.

As per the DPS report, a 2017 Bluebird passenger bus with ten inmates and two guards was heading westbound on State Highway 36 when a 2017 Ford passenger car attempted to pass the bus. The passenger car was not clear to pass and tried to cut back into the lane.

For an unknown reason, the car hit the bus. Both the bus and car veered off the road and stopped on the east side of the roadway.

The driver of the passenger car and the driver of the bus were taken to a nearby hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.

Further details regarding the collision were immediately provided.

The accident remains under investigation.
