Three Killed in Lufkin Two-Vehicle Crash on South First Street; Tyler Lewis Arrested

Lufkin, Texas (December 17, 2022) – Three people were killed early Saturday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Lufkin, according to the authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 12:00 a.m., on South First Street in front of Ralph & Kacoos and Cotton Patch.

Authorities said Tyler Lewis, 17, of Jasper, was driving a small sedan southbound when he made a sudden lane change and was rear-ended by another vehicle. The impact caused the sedan to spin into the median, where it came to an abrupt stop.

Three of the six passengers in the sedan were pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were airlifted to an out-of-town hospital for treatment. The sixth person was treated and released at a local hospital.

Lewis was taken into custody after being treated and released at a local hospital. He was awaiting three counts of intoxication manslaughter charges with additional charges pending at the Angelina County Jail.

Neither Lewis nor his passengers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
