Fernando Gonzalez and Jesse Kuykendall Killed in Houston Pedestrian Accident on Gulf Freeway

Houston, Texas (December 7, 2019) – The two people who were killed after they were hit by a vehicle last month in Houston have been identified as Fernando Gonzalez and Jesse Kuykendall, according to the police.

The deadly accident occurred at about 1:10 a.m., November 23, on the southbound lanes of Gulf Freeway (I-45) near the Cullen exit.

Police said a Nissan Versa was struck by an unknown vehicle that left the scene. While the Nissan was stalled in a lane on the freeway, it was rear-ended by a Nissan Altima.

The two drivers, Gonzalez and Kuykendall, got out of their vehicles to exchange information and were waiting near the HOV concrete barrier while a wrecker blocked the lane of traffic. That is when a speeding Toyota CHR driven by Lupe Longoria, 27, hit both of them.

The impact threw Gonzalez and Kuykendall into the HOV lane. One of them was declared dead at the scene while the other victim was rushed to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he later died.

Longoria was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. He was released after paying $100 bond.

An investigation is ongoing.
