Firefighter Dies After Fire Truck Backs Into Him on Interstate 35 in Abbott

Abbott Volunteer Firefighter Killed in Interstate 35 Accident near Main Street Market

Abbott, Texas (April 15, 2023) – An Abbott volunteer firefighter died after a fire truck backed into him on Friday night in Abbott, according to the Abbott Fire Department.

At about 7:18 p.m. Friday, April 14, the Abbott Fire Department responded to a call about a crash on Interstate 35, just south of the new Main Street Market.

When crews arrived, they determined that a driver was stranded and stayed to help with traffic control.

As they were helping the driver, one of the firefighters was backed into by a fire truck.

The firefighter was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

No other details were provided.

DPS is investigating the crash.
