Jose Zavala Killed in Lufkin Three-Vehicle Crash on Timberland Drive

Lufkin, Texas (November 3, 2021) – One person was killed, and four others were injured on Sunday in a three-vehicle crash in Lufkin, according to the police.

The fatal crash happened on October 31, in the 2000 block of N. Timberland Drive.

Police said Jose Edgardo Zavala, Jr., 21, was driving a 2014 Ford Mustang northbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control, crossed four lanes of traffic, and collided with a southbound 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup. A southbound 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 couldn’t stop in time and rear-ended the Sierra.

Zavala was taken to the hospital, where he later died. The Sierra driver and three children were taken to the hospital for treatment. One of the children was later airlifted to an out-of-town hospital for further treatment.

The Dodge driver refused transportation to the hospital.

The crash closed N. Timberland Drive for a while. The southbound traffic was rerouted to Forest Park Boulevard.

The crash remains under investigation.

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
