Linda Cortines Hit, Killed by Car at Loop 287 and Frank Avenue in Lufkin

Linda Cortines ID’d as Homeless Woman Killed in Lufkin Pedestrian Accident at Loop 287 and Frank Avenue

Lufkin, Texas (November 28, 2019) – The homeless woman who was hit and killed by a car Monday night in Lufkin has been identified as Linda Cortines, according to the police.

The deadly accident happened near midnight Monday, November 25, at the intersection of Loop 287 and Frank Avenue.

Police said a driver in the inside lane had stopped to allow the woman to cross the street, despite the light being green. Matthew Battise, 26, was driving in the outside lane hit Cortines. 

Battise did not see Cortines crossing the street because he was obstructed by the other car.

Cortines was taken to CHI St. Luke’s Memorial Lufkin, where she later died. 

An investigation is underway.
