Man Killed in Pedestrian Crash on US 281 in San Manuel

Man Killed in San Manuel Pedestrian Accident on US 281

San Manuel, Texas (April 17, 2021) – A man was killed Thursday evening in a pedestrian accident in San Manuel, according to a local news release.

The deadly accident happened around 10:13 p.m., April 15, on US 281, near mile marker 754.

According to the release, a U.S. Border Patrol stopped a silver Ford Taurus passenger car, and four people from the vehicle fled. One of those people ran toward the roadway and was hit by a truck and then run over by another vehicle.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

The Ford driver, 16-year-old Diego Garay, was arrested for Smuggling of Persons and taken to the Edinburg Juvenile Justice Center.

An investigation is underway.
