Mauro Castillo Killed, Carlos Arriaga Injured in Head-On Crash on Loop 20 in Laredo

Mauro Castillo Killed, Carlos Arriaga Injured in Laredo Three-Vehicle Crash on Loop 20

Laredo, Texas – One of the two people who were critically injured early Sunday morning in a head-on collision in Laredo has died, according to the police.

Mauro Castillo III, 43, was pronounced dead on January 4.

The crash happened around 2:30 a.m., December 24, on Loop 20.

Police said a grey Dodge Charger was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when it crashed head-on into a grey GMC Sierra and a black GMC Yukon which were traveling northbound.

The drivers of the Sierra and the Yukon were uninjured.

The Charger driver, Carlos Arriaga, 28, and passenger, Castillo, were taken to the hospital with critical injuries. Castillo was transported to Brooks Army Medical Center where he passed away on Jan. 4, 2024.

The LPD Crash Team and CAPERS are investigating the crash.
