Phillip Mayfield Killed and Demmit Gray Injured in Coleman County Two-Vehicle Crash on US 67

Coleman County, Texas (November 23, 2023) – One person was killed and another was injured Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Coleman County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 6:00 a.m., November 21, on US 67, approximately 3.1 miles east of Valera.

DPS said Phillip Scott Mayfield, 48, of San Antonio, was driving a pickup truck westbound on the wrong side of the roadway when he crashed into a westbound tractor-trailer, driven by Demmit Clayborne Gray, 57, of Franklin.

Mayfield was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Gray was taken to Coleman Medical Center with non-incapacitating injuries and was listed in stable condition.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
