Richard Walker Killed, Cheyarle Lopez Injured in Taylor County Two-Vehicle Crash at FM 707 and CR 314

Taylor County, Texas (December 8, 2023) – One person was killed and another was injured Thursday afternoon in a head-on collision in Taylor County southwest of Abilene, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened on December 7, at the intersection of FM 707 and CR 314.

DPS said Richard Walker, 55, of Abilene was driving a 2015 Kia Soul passenger car southbound on FM 707 approaching the intersection while Kenneth Oneal, 79, of Abilene was driving a 2002 Ford SUV northbound on FM 707 approaching the same intersection.

Oneal’s SUV failed to yield the right of way and turned into the path of Walker’s Kia, resulting in a head-on collision.

Walker, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was taken to Hendrick Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. His passenger, 40-year-old Cheyarle Lopez, was seriously injured in the crash.

Oneal was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash.  

The crash remains under investigation.
