Several Injured in El Paso Two-Vehicle Crash on Gateway East at Geronimo Drive; Nestor Moreno-Quesada Arrested

El Paso, Texas – Several people were injured and one person was arrested following a Thursday morning Texas Department of Public Safety pursuit that ended in a two-vehicle crash in El Paso, according to the Texas DPS.

The crash happened just before 6:00 a.m., on January 11, in the area of Gateway East and Geronimo Drive.

DPS said at around 5:50 a.m., a DPS trooper along with the Criminal Investigation Division working on Operation Lone Star, attempted to stop Nestor Moreno-Quesada, 33, from Mexico, who was driving an SUV and was transporting three migrants after they received information about the vehicle from the United States Border Patrol Anti-Smuggling Unit. The trooper attempted to stop the SUV for multiple traffic violations near Doniphan Dr. and N. Mesa, but Moreno-Quesada fled after the trooper turned on their emergency lights and siren.

The trooper pursued the SUV along Interstate 10 until it exited Geronimo. Moreno-Quesada allegedly ignored the intersection traffic light and crashed into a black car with two passengers.

Moreno-Quesada and the passengers were taken to University Medical Center (UMC) with minor injuries.

The driver of the black car was also taken to UMC with serious injuries. The passenger of the black car was transported to Del Sol Medical with minor injuries.

Moreno-Quesada was arrested and has been charged with evading arrest and smuggling of persons.

An investigation is ongoing.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
