Stephanie Torres-Herrera Hit, Killed by 18-Wheeler on Hwy 79 in Milam County

Stephanie Torres-Herrera Killed in Milam County 18-Wheeler Crash on Highway 79

Milam County, Texas (July 7, 2021) – A woman was hit and killed by an 18-wheeler Tuesday morning in Milam County, according to the Texas DPS.

The deadly accident happened around 5:30 a.m., July 6, on U.S. Highway 79 near the community of Gause, just west of Hearne.

DPS said the driver of a Ford pickup truck was trying to jump-start a stalled Honda on the eastbound shoulder of the highway and both drivers were standing near the front of the Honda.

Stephanie Louisa Torres-Herrera, 29, of Taylor, who was a passenger in the Ford, was searching for something in the trunk of the Honda when an 18-wheeler drifted onto the shoulder and hit her.

Torres-Herrera was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said there was heavy fog in the area at the time of the crash.

The troopers are conducting the investigation.
