Trooper Injured in Palmview Hit-and-Run Crash on Western Road near 5 Mile Line Road; Tania Flores and Jonathan Lopez Arrested

Palmview, Texas (November 26, 2023) – A state trooper was injured Saturday morning in a hit-and-run crash north of Palmview, according to the Texas DPS.

The crash happened around 5:25 a.m., November 25, on Western Road, north of 5 Mile Line Road.

DPS said the trooper’s unit, a Chevrolet Tahoe, was stopped at a stop sign facing southbound when a southbound silver BMW passenger car failed to control its speed and crashed into the Tahoe.

The trooper was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Both occupants of the BMW fled the scene after the crash. Both were later arrested and taken to the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center. Tania Flores, 20, of Mission, was charged with intoxication assault causing serious bodily injury to a peace officer. Flores’ passenger, 17-year-old Jonathan Lopez, of Mission, was also charged with failure to stop and render aid with serious bodily injury.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
