Vania Lopez-Cruz Killed in Brooks County Pedestrian Crash on US Highway 281

Brooks County, Texas (December 1, 2020) – The woman who was injured in a pedestrian accident Wednesday night in Brooks County has died, according to authorities.

Vania Lopez-Cruz, 25, of Mexico, succumbed to her injuries on Monday, November 30.

The accident happened around 7:35 p.m., November 25, on US Highway 281, 10 miles south of Falfurrias.

According to a preliminary investigation, Lopez-Cruz was attempting to walk across the highway when she was hit by a southbound 2019 Jeep Compass.

Lopez-Cruz was walking in a dark non-lighted area of the roadway. She was airlifted to Spohn Shoreline Hospital in Corpus Christi with life-threatening injuries, where she died five days later.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
